The TREX Recycling Challenge

October 31, 2019

PS 56Q is now promoting plastic film recycling challenge!  We have partnership with The Trex Company Challenge with the objective to educate students and our community on the importance of plastic film recycling through the RECYCLE BEYOND THE BAG PROGRAM!

Every year hundreds of school across the country are participating on the challenge, and when you donate your unwanted plastic materials to Trex, not only you are helping to keep thousands of pounds of waste out of landfills, the oceans, rivers and beaches,  but also, to educate our community on the impact of recycling and how your contribution to save the environment can help to conserve energy, save natural resources, reduce pollution, reduce greenhouse gasses, and save wildlife.

The challenge runs from November 2019 to April 2020.

We are asking each family to recycle your household plastic bags, and bring them to school.  You can recycle produce & bread bags, plastic shopping bags, grocery bags, cereal box liners, ice bags, Ziploc & other reclosable bags, case overwrap, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap, plastic shipping envelopes, salt bags, and newspaper sleeves.  Starting tomorrow, November 1st, we will have 1 recycling bin on each floor for students to drop off their collection.  We kindly ask families to make sure all materials must be clean, dry and free of food residues.

Participating schools compete against other schools to recycle the most plastic film and the winning school, is awarded with a TREX bench and other awards.  PS 56Q let's make sure we RECYCLE BEYOND THE BAG!
